Dupont Farmers Market

Every Sunday the Dupont Circle Farmers Market brings all sorts of vendors together, from local meats and cheeses to fresh fruit, from orchids to mushrooms, from homemade soups to homespun wool. One of my favorite vendors is Tree and Leaf Farm from Unionville, VA. Lately they’ve had an amazing variety of winter radishes, lettuce, and tubers.  I love how bizarre the beets and radishes look – I almost feel like I’m in another country, trying to figure out what to do with the strange produce found in the market.

I bought some sunchokes, which I had only eaten in a restaurant before. They look like ginger root but taste more like artichokes. They’re actually in the sunflower family.

The final product: roasted sunchokes and fingerling sweet potatoes with thyme and an arugula salad with goat cheese. Yum.
