Last weekend we went to a beach called Playa del Coco. It was a bit of a trek to get there since the last 45 minutes of the drive are along a rough dirt road with three small rivers. But it was worth it. We rented an amazing house with three other couples. In addition to the nice pool and beachfront location, one huge advantage of the house is the fact that a family lives on the property and serves as caretakers. The wife of the family, Darling, cleans the house during the day and cooked the whole red snapper we bought for dinner. The family has a rambunctious little 5 year old whose shyness didn’t last long and quickly made himself part of our group.
I had fun watching little Juan Diego chase waves in the late afternoon. He threw a small fit when his dad told him it was time to come inside, but the next day he was back to his happy self. This kid lives steps from the beach but still finds the waves endlessly entertaining.
When we were leaving he kept saying in a very formal, pretend grown-up voice, “Thank you, come again.”
I hope we will.
