The more you read, the more your reading list grows
Have you ever read a book that made you want to read (or reread) a classic you hadn’t thought of for years? I’m not talking about another book by the same author or the next book in a series – but a completely different book. I just finished Mister Pip by Lloyd Jones, and now have a burning desire to read Great Expectations by Dickens. The plot and personalities in Great Expectations are woven throughout the book and are responsible for the salvation and destruction of the key characters. By the end, the main character’s affection for Great Expectations becomes contagious. It reminded me of The Tender Bar, a fabulous memoir of a kid growing up on Long Island. I dare you to read it and not immediately pick up a copy of the Great Gatsby. Finding George Orwell in Burma prompted us to go out and get ahold of Animal Farm. What about you? What books have given you that spark? Even if you didn’t end up reading that second book!
