Vintage Olympic Posters

Big Olympic news on Friday. I was pulling for Chicago, but Rio promises to be quite a party. Randy Jeon has a great Photostream on Flickr with vintage Olympic posters dating back to 1896!  I love how each poster is modern in its own way for its time.  He includes a brief history of that years’ games. Here are some of my favorites:

 Amsterdam 1928

We’ve come a long way since 1924. I think the skin colors would be a bit more diverse if they used this poster as a model today. At the 1924 Paris Games, the Olympic motto, “Citius, Altius, Fortius“, (Swifter, Higher, Stronger) was introduced.

London 1948 vs. London 2012.

No contest. The 1948 version gets the gold! The 2012 one is hideous!

Now here’s one from the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City.  It’s actually one of my favorites, other than the sense of vertigo I get after looking at it for more than a few seconds.

In contrast: Tokyo 1964. Enough said.

So what will Rio look like?
